Unity is a vision; it must have been part of the process of learning to see. — Henry Adams
Filipino-American Law Enforcement Officers Association (FALEO) is a San Franciso-based organization comprised of active and retired Filipino-American law enforcement officers who promote stronger ties between the law enforcement communities of the United States and the Philippines. Thus, it puts plans into action to help the multicultural communities we serve and protect.[1]
LT Eric Quema, a retired veteran of the San Francisco Police Department Program, started delegates of the FALEO Program. I had an incredibly eye-opening experience with the FALEO program. It was quite beneficial to be exposed to actual conflict situations and learn how to respond quickly. We learned from the teachers the precautions we need to take to stay safe and prevent getting hurt by criminals. They also showed us the target areas we needed to aim at to teach us how to fire properly.
As a future law enforcement officer, having this knowledge and skill will be crucial since it will assist in avoiding catastrophes when danger arises. The emphasis on the value of leadership during the training was also one of the things that struck me most. The lecturers emphasized the value of accepting responsibility and demonstrating a dedication to protecting and serving the community. This encounter strengthened my ambition to join the police force and improve my community.
The FALEO program was a worthwhile educational experience that gave me not only the skills I needed to succeed as a law enforcement officer. It reaffirmed my love and dedication to this line of work.
