Technology breeds crimes and we are constantly trying to develop technology to stay one step ahead of the person trying to use it negatively. — Frank Abagnale

The speaker and honoree, PBGen. Harris Reyes Fama attended us for the Monday Flag Raising Ceremony on November 7, 2022, to speak to us about the value of technology in fighting crime, particularly because criminality has advanced, cybercrime is now rampant, and law enforcement needs to keep up. This is true especially now that criminals have integrated themselves into illegal platforms, and many pose as legal sites for ransomware and phishing attacks.

The police force evolved into training more police officers who are knowledgeable in network security, and tracking for technology can assist in crime-solving by providing a more efficient way of working that allows investigating officers to review all the relevant evidence quickly.[1]

In addition, the speaker provided a tool that is truly helpful for us as cadets, future police officers, and ordinary members of society. This management tool is SAPADAPPA. The SA stands for Situation Analysis, PA for Problem Analysis, DA for Decision Analysis, and PPA for Potential Problem and Solutions Analysis.

This management tool is helpful circumstances since it tackles knowing what is going on, what the issue is, what needs to be done, and what needs to be prevented. In this current era where hustle culture is prevalent, we tend always to be swept by the rushing nature of society. Hence we tend to overlook some things since we need to properly assess what happens in our surroundings by taking a step back and setting time for decision-making. This management tool will help significantly in making important decisions for our private lives and, most importantly, in our professional life.

As future police officers, there will be times when we receive an important call of duty, and we can face dangerous operations that need serious decision-making. This management tool will help us become better analysts and calm leaders in our lives and other people’s lives. By leaders of our own lives, I meant managing our time wisely by prioritizing more essential things or organizing our schedule, so we have time for ourselves and our families. By being leaders of others, this management tool will help us to quickly identify the root issue of a problem and apply the necessary decision-making steps to resolve it.

As cadets, practicing this management tool by employing it in our everyday lives will prepare us for the harsh world of law enforcement in which every decision counts as crucial. To avoid errors in judgment and agree to a sound decision that will secure the best outcomes and the safety of our lives and the lives of others, we should take some time to quietly and thoroughly examine our surroundings, situations, strengths, and weaknesses.

Hi, thanks for dropping by!

I am a cadet of the Philippine National Police Academy Masidtalak Class of 2023. I am also a member of the Alfa Company and the First Battalion Investigation Officer. Just like everybody else, I used to be a civilian who dreamed of becoming a part of the long maroon line.
