"Security is a process, not a product." — Bruce Schneier
In line with the peace and security framework of PNP Chief, PGEN RODOLFO S AZURIN, JR entitled as Malasakit, Kaayusan, Kapayapaan and Kaunlaran, (MKK=K).[1] On January 24, 2023, Police Cadets of Philippine National Police Academy and the personnel of Tagaytay CCPS under the direct supervision of PLTCOL Charles Daven M. Capagcuan, OIC, Tagaytay Component City Police Station as they conduct a visitation of business establishments to provide police visibility within the AOR and inspection of CCTV cameras as part of crime prevention/suppression.
Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) in crime prevention and detection is becoming increasingly important in the modern era, where technology and criminal activity are constantly evolving.[2] The visitation of business establishments to provide police visibility within the AOR and the inspection of CCTV cameras is an essential step toward ensuring public safety and security. As Police Cadets from the Philippine National Police Academy, this activity allowed us to recognize the relevance of incorporating technology in crime prevention.
The presence of CCTV cameras in business establishments not only serves as a deterrent to potential criminals but also helps detect and suppress criminal activity. It enables law enforcement agencies such as the Tagaytay Component City Police Station to respond quickly and efficiently to any security threats, thereby promoting a safer community. Furthermore, the footage captured by these cameras can be used as evidence in legal proceedings, ensuring that criminals are held accountable for their actions.
This activity also highlights the importance of building positive relationships between law enforcement agencies and business owners. By cooperating with the Tagaytay CCPS during the inspection of their CCTV cameras, business owners demonstrated their commitment to community safety and security. In turn, law enforcement agencies can build trust and rapport with the community, which is essential in maintaining law and order.
As police officers, we recognize that effective crime prevention requires a holistic set of skills, including communicating and interacting with people from different walks of life. This activity allowed us to practice and improve our communication skills as we engaged with business owners and educated them on crime prevention and safety tips.
In conclusion, using CCTV cameras in business establishments is essential for crime prevention and detection. It clearly manifests the PNP's commitment to ensuring public safety and security. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the community and the need for police officers to possess a diverse set of skills to maintain law and order effectively.
