On January 25, 2023, Police Cadets from Philippine National Police Academy together with personnel of Maitim II Police Community Precinct, under direct supervision of PLTCOL Charles Daven M. Capagcuan, OIC Tagaytay Component City Police Station conducted visitation of different subdivisions and providing police visibility within their area-of-responsibility in order to prevent crimes. In addition to the benefits of crime prevention and community building, police visibility allows the public to get to know their local police officers. By interacting with the community in a non-threatening manner, police officers can dispel any misconceptions or stereotypes that the public may have about law enforcement. This promotes transparency, accountability, and a better understanding of the role of the police in society.[1]
Moreover, the Police Cadets from the Philippine National Police Academy who participated in the visitations were exposed to the importance of community policing and the value of interacting with residents. By engaging with the community, cadets gain valuable experience and skills they can use in their future law enforcement careers. This exposure also allows them to appreciate different communities' unique challenges and needs.
The success of police visibility programs depends on the continuous support and participation of the police and the community.[1] It is important that this effort does not end with a one-time visitation but rather continues regularly to maintain a strong presence in the community. Furthermore, police officers must maintain professionalism, respect, and a non-discriminatory approach when interacting with the public, as this is crucial to building trust and establishing positive relationships.
In conclusion, community policing and police visibility initiatives create a safer and more secure society. These efforts promote positive relationships between the police and the community and encourage the public to participate in crime prevention efforts. By continuing to conduct regular visitations and other community-based initiatives, the Philippine National Police can significantly reduce crime and create a safer society.
