"Government's first duty and highest obligation is public safety." — Arnold Schwarzenegger
The Cadet Attachment Program (CAP) of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) offers an excellent opportunity for cadets to gain practical experience in police work. On January 18, 2023, cadets assigned to the Tagaytay Component City Police Station as part of CAP participated in a checkpoint operation. This activity demonstrated the importance of managing police operations to prevent crime and ensure community safety.
Checkpoints are a common tactic in law enforcement, where police officers briefly detain travelers and ask them questions to ensure they follow traffic rules and deter criminal activities.[1] The activity in Tagaytay City gave the cadets a first-hand experience of how police officers conduct these operations, including initiating conversations and questioning the drivers and passengers.
Through this experience, the cadets learned about the importance of communication and interpersonal skills in police work. They also understood the legal and ethical considerations in managing police operations. These skills and knowledge are crucial for future police officers as they strive to uphold the law and maintain public order while ensuring the protection of individual rights.
The direct supervision of the officers involved in the operation, especially PCPT Jayson M. Paras and PLTCOL Charles Daven M. Capagcuan, provides the cadets with valuable guidance and insights. By observing and learning from experienced officers, cadets can develop their skills and better understand the complexities of police work.
Overall, the CAP is an essential program that enables cadets to gain practical experience and exposure to various police activities. The checkpoint operation in Tagaytay City is just one example of the many opportunities the CAP provides to future police officers. It helps them develop the necessary skills and knowledge to uphold the law and protect the community, ultimately promoting a safer and more peaceful society.
