"A day without a prayer is a day without blessing, and a life without a prayer is a life without power." — Edwin Harvey
On January 22, 2023, PCDT Aguilar attended the Holy Mass in relation to Kasimbayanan - Pugay Bathala to adhere the PNP principle of "MAKADIYOS"[1] at St. Rafael Church in Brgy Patutong Malaki, Tagaytay City.
Attending a religious service or engaging in other spiritual practices can have numerous benefits beyond just a sense of peace and calm. Research has shown that having a strong sense of spirituality or faith can lead to better mental and physical health and greater resilience in the face of adversity.
For police officers, who may regularly face high levels of stress and trauma in their work, finding ways to maintain their spiritual and emotional well-being can be especially important.
Incorporating spiritual practices into one's daily routine can also help to build a sense of community and belonging. Attending religious services can provide an opportunity to connect with others who share your beliefs and values, which can be especially important for police officers who sometimes feel isolated or disconnected from the community. It can also build relationships with community members outside of a law enforcement context, which helps to build trust and promote positive relationships.
In addition to the personal and community benefits, prioritizing spirituality and faith can also be a way to stay connected to the core values and principles of law enforcement. The PNP principle of "MAKADIYOS" emphasizes the importance of putting God first in all aspects of life, including one's work as a police officer. This principle can remind officers to uphold the highest ethical and moral standards in their work and to approach their job with a sense of service and commitment to the greater good.
Overall, prioritizing spirituality and faith can be a valuable way for police officers to maintain their well-being, build connections with the community, and stay connected to the core values and principles of law enforcement. While it may be challenging to make time for these practices amidst the demands of a busy workweek, finding ways to incorporate them into one's routine can have numerous benefits for the individual officer and the broader community.
